Medical students taking Urology 7200 will be expected to read assigned chapters from Smith General Urology (14th Edition) by Tanagho and McAninch. Listed below are chapters that comprise the required reading:

Physical Examination of the Genitourinary Tract
Chapter 5
Urologic Laboratory Examination
Chapter 19
Injuries to the Genitourinary Tract
Chapter 23

2. Evaluations of Text
It is your responsibility to obtain a final evaluation from the faculty at your rotation site. You should select one faculty member who is aware of your performance to complete the evaluation form and let the site coordinator know which staff member you have selected. At the final examination, you should bring:
1. Name of faculty member to evaluate your performance
2. Patient encounter logs
3. Textbook, if borrowed

3. Final Examination
The exam consists of 20 questions and should take approximately 30 minutes. You must pass the final examination to pass the course. On the second Thursday of the rotation, you will take the exam, unless otherwise specified by your site coordinator. You will need to turn in your faculty evaluation form and the Smith General Urology book before taking the examination. If a faculty member is not available to complete the evaluation, please make arrangements with your site coordinator to sit for the exam.
You may register for 2- or 4-week blocks. Students have the choice of doing Adult or Pediatric Urology. Only students who plan a career in pediatrics or family practice should elect to take Pediatric Urology. If you request pediatric urology, you will spend time at Minneapolis Children's Hospital as well as the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, with Dr. Pergament by special arrangement. Please contact Donna Miller at 651-215-4234. If you want to arrange your rotation with Dr. Pergament, call well in advance to reserve your time slot. This is a very popular rotation, and he only takes one student per rotation.
If you elect to do Adult Urology, you will spend two weeks at one of the following hospitals: University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, VA Medical Center or Hennepin County Medical Center. If you are taking the entire four weeks in Urology, you should elect two of the four services listed above.
